Five Days A Week
The family-owned and operated Creegan Company is the nation's largest manufacrturer of animated and costume characters. You may recognize Beary Bear©,
Plentiful Penquin©, Strawberry Bunny©, and the Gamuffins© from your local retail store windows and seasonal mall displays. Creegan also designs characters for Sea World
, Hershey's Chocolate World, and Disney World. Creegan employees bring an array of characters to life. The three-floor factory/craft showcase teems with creativity as artists
and crafts people design, sculpt, decorate, and mechanize hundreds of animated creatures. Inside the factory your guide leads you into a virual craft heaven containing what must
be thousands of spools of ribbom of every color, pattern, and texture. Puppet heads, scenery, and props lurk behind silk flowers and craft paraphernalia.
It is not unusual to see projects in
every stage of completion. Up a wide staircase is the art shop where workers make costumes and paint faces on molded plastic heads. On the main floor, a huge vacuum form machine presses out the puppets' faces. Here,
you may see sheets of stark white plastic being pressed over molds into various facial configurations. Downstairs in the sculpting area, one person sculpts all of the character-head molds.
Shelves contain hundreds of plaster molds shaped like heads, feet, hands, and animals. Further along is the mechanics/electronics department, full of workbenches laden with toolboxes, hand tools,
lathes, vises and drillpresses. Peek inside some headless mechanized bodies to discover some figures' detailed electronic insides and to see how the parts unite to produce a character's body
movements. After a tour of the Creegan Company, you will agree with our motto: "We Make Things Move"
